About the work

Thomas Hollier is a multi-disciplinary artist working with digital data. In his work, he seeks out new aesthetic approaches more relevant to electronic media in order to better reflect the chaos and contradictions of the Technocene era. Immaterial data, algorithms and digital patterns collide against traditional film techniques and established visual grammar to create a dynamic field where plausible new definitions of time, motion, loss and memory continually appear and dissolve away.

Videos and images presented on this website are generated by custom algorithms applied to standard media data captured by consumer devices like smartphones and digital cameras.

About me

I grew up in France steeped in Western art and movie culture. I studied film production and theory in San Francisco and, when I first discovered computer graphics in 1988, I was immediately struck by the potential of digital media as a creative medium. I have applied my experimental instincts and visual fluency to its exploration ever since.

I have worked extensively in entertainment. Starting out working on visual effects movies and animated features at Sony Pictures Imageworks, I eventually segued into themed entertainment at Walt Disney Imagineering where I was able to integrate my high end CG production experience with other digital technologies in the context of immersive physical environments.(www.relentlessplayvfx.com).

Throughout that time, I’ve been experimenting with the creative possibilities of digital technologies in our analog world with a spirit of curiosity, wonder and play.
